Spousal Support / Alimony

Alimony or Spousal Support is a form of support paid from one spouse to the other. Alimony is not automatically given in a divorce settlement; it must be requested. Once it is requested, there are several factors that are reviewed to determine if it is actually due to the spouse asking for it. Based on factors such as the length of the marriage, each party’s income, assets, earning capacity, health, etc., the court decides whether or not the spouse asking for alimony may receive it and in what amount.
